THE DISTRIBUTION OF VACCINE LADDEN TRAPS

The distribution by airplanes of vaccine laden traps was carried out on August 24th and 25th 2001 in the Quebec regions of Eastern Townships and Monteregie. It was the third time that this operation against rabies has been carried out here.
The first time was in September 1999. The second distribution was carried out in September 2000. The third time this was done as a preventive measure. Because, for some years now, an epidemic of rabies in raccoons is slowly progressing in the United States, particularly in the north eastern states. And so, in Quebec, in a spirit of prevention, has decided to participate, since 1997, in erecting immunological barriers from the United States border side.
The Minister of agriculture, fishing, and foods of Quebec has reassured us, "These traps are in no way dangerous for the health of humans, the fauna, or domesticated animals.but in case a person or animal comes in contact with one of these traps, to contact immediately a health clinic or the direction of public health.
